The Kaua’i

Volunteers Project

About The Founder and Mission

A Story Remembered

“I remember one story in particular about him staring down an enemy in the field,” Mike recalls. “As I listened, I held my breath, wondering what would happen next. Then my dad said the enemy let out a snort and I realized it was a Hawaiian boar. Sometimes the enemy was not a person at all, but your next meal.”

A Legacy of Service

Mike Faye grew up surrounded by stories of courage, resilience, and daily life on Kauaʻi during World War II. His father, Alan Faye, served as a captain of Troop A, and through these stories, Mike came to understand service not only as duty, but as community. Some memories carried fear and uncertainty, while others revealed moments of humor and humanity. Together, they form a personal and historical record of life during an extraordinary time.

These stories shaped Mike’s understanding of family, responsibility, and the importance of preserving memory.

The Kauaʻi Volunteers Project

After his father’s passing, Mike created the Kauaʻi Volunteers Project to honor his father and all who served alongside him. The project collects and preserves personal stories, photographs, and artifacts, ensuring that the courage, dedication, and everyday experiences of the Kauaʻi Volunteers are not lost to time.

Each contribution helps build a living archive that reflects both the service and the humanity of those who volunteered.

A Vision for the Future

Imagine a space where generations can connect with the heroism and resilience of the Kauaʻi Volunteers. This future museum will serve as a place of remembrance and learning, preserving personal stories, artifacts, and history in a way that honors both service and humanity.

We are working toward this goal and seeking support to establish the Kauaʻi Volunteers Project as a 501(c)(3) organization, ensuring these stories are preserved and shared for generations to come.

Troop A Members

While we have endeavored to list all members of Troop A, our records remain incomplete. We are continuing to gather photographs, ranks, and years of service for some volunteers. Any recollections, documents, or artifacts you may share will be of great value in preserving this history.

This website will be updated as new information comes to light to ensure every member is properly recognized for their service and dedication.

We invite you to help keep the memory of the Kauaʻi Volunteers alive. If you have a story, photograph, artifact, or family memory to share, we would be honored to receive it. Your contributions help safeguard these stories and pass them on for generations to come.
